1951 Mercury M1 Half Ton Pickup Truck

1951 Mercury M1 Half Ton Pickup Truck for sale

Found this truck was listed at Craigslist about 2 months ago and still online today, as shown here is twins brother of Ford F1 truck was only sale in Canada is Mercury M1 realesed in 1951 still in excellent condition. Very rare truck in the US especially for its age and condition. Asking $20000 located Norco, California.

Owner says; 1951 Mercury M1 Half Ton 5 Star Cab Pickup Truck, very rare truck in all original unrestored condition. This truck runs and drives perfectly with original Flathead V8 and 3 speed manual transmission. Clear California Title. This truck has only had one previous owner and has been on the same farm all of its life up in Alberta, Canada until I brought it down here.

The body is in good shape, with all original paint. There is a little rust in the fenders but the cab, floorboards and frame are all very solid and rust free. All of the chrome and Mercury specific emblems are in good condition. The more elaborate hood side emblems and chrome windshield trim are specific to the more desirable and less common 5 tar Cab. The original Mercury hub caps are in great shape. These are impossible to find and not reproduced. The wooden bed floor is in excellent condition. The Mercury specific tailgate opens and closes smoothly. All glass is good.

The interior is in nice original condition. The original seat has been re-upholstered correctly, as have the 5 Star Cab door panels and headliner. It has the Mercury specific horn button and dash emblem. The doors and windows all open and close very smoothly. The original heater works well. Even the dome light works and so do the gauges.

The original Flathead V8 starts very well and runs as smooth as a swiss watch. It has no leaks and plenty of power. It breathes through a dual exhaust and original oil bath air cleaner. The brakes are strong and it stops nice and straight. The clutch is light and bites low, the transmission shifts very smoothly. It handles very well, the steering and suspension are very tight. Overall this all original truck runs and drives better than any restored example I have driven. It really cannot be faulted. It could be driven anywhere and will cruise all day at 60 mph. The tires are all new.

Overall this is a remarkably rare half ton truck in exceptional original condition. It is ready to be enjoyed and taken to shows by its new owner. Either leave it looking exactly how it is as they are only original once or the perfect basis to do the bodywork and repaint.

Due to the much smaller Canadian market, Ford of Canada only sold approximately one tenth as many trucks as Ford did in the US and around two thirds of those were Ford's leaving the remaining third to be Mercury's. So very few of these trucks where produced and it is becoming much harder for us to source nice original and complete examples such as this. Due to Canada's harsh climate only a handful remain today. I doubt that there is another unrestored 51 Mercury M1 anywhere in the World as good as this example, let alone down here in California.

Feel free to arrange to view and test drive, you will not be disappointed.
